Laura Zhang is an emerging process artist who grew up on Lamma Island, Hong Kong, between metropolis and wilderness, and in a family bridging East and West. Laura’s practice is a way of investigating fractals – the geometry of nature - through the creative process. Humans have always noticed patterns in nature, consciously or unconsciously, and used them in life and art. Laura’s first interest was in the process of abstract mark-making. From this “doodling” the work evolved organically to exploring the contemporary language of abstraction and its connections with nature, science and universalism. After schooling in Hong Kong, Laura studied Fine Art at the University of Leeds in the UK. She is the Curator and Founder of 宀 Gallery and is passionate about multiple aspects of the art world, from inspiring children in their creativity to supporting emerging artists in gallery settings, and not least in her own studio work.
